OPEN CALL | STAGES#3

27.10.25

Open Call for STAGES#3 is out now, this will be the 3rd edition of the annual residency programme organised by iMAL and A Two Dogs Company (ATDC). We invite tech-savy artists to explore the boundries of performing arts and digital arts to challenge both the traditional white box of the exhibition space and the black box of the stage.

DEADLINE APPLICATION:  22.12.2025
LOCATIONS: The residency is located at the ATDC Studio & Atelier for a 1 year. On top of that, between May and July 2026, a 1 month residency at iMAL will be available as well. The two workspaces are right around the corner from eachother.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are looking for artists, nerds, engineers and programmers who dream about crossing the boundries of traditional spaces, perfomances and technologies: to experiment with tech as dramaturgy, and to imagine how bodies, codes, materials and machines could come together.

This call is open to emerging artists living in Belgium, regardless of nationality, gender, religion, or background. We strongly encourage applications from artists of all identities and origins. We welcome artists whose practices lie at the intersection of:

  • Performance and digital art
  • Technology and dramaturgy
  • The Body and The Machine
  • Installation, sound, and/or AI-driven performance

WHAT CAN WE OFFER?
Together, iMAL and ATDC offer a unique environment where technological experimentation and theatrical research converge, where artists can move freely between code and choreography, while being guided and supported by experienced professionals in the fields of art, installation, performance and technology.

iMAL could be where the white box becomes a site of reflection and resistance, a lab for critical engagement with digital technologies. Through exhibitions, residencies, workshops, and the iMAL Fablab, we support artistic practices that explore the social, political, and environmental implications of the digital age. As iMAL celebrates its 25th anniversary, we open a new cycle focused on resilience, degrowth of computation, and regenerative production ecosystems.

A Two Dogs Company, founded by Kris Verdonck, brings 20 years of experience in performance, installation, dramaturgy and much more. Where the black box becomes a field of tension, constantly being tested and expanded. A space between presence and absence, real and virtual, human and machine. Verdonck’s work continuously redefines what performance can be in an age shaped by automation and artificial intelligence.
